Riad La Calèche is a traditional Moroccan guest house set in the very heart of the Marrakech Medina, on a quiet derb just a few minutes' walk from the legendary Djemaa El Fna square. Built around an inner courtyard in the classic riad style, it wraps daily life around a calm central patio, shielding guests from the bustle of the souks while keeping the whole old town within easy reach. Its location is the property's strongest asset, rated an excellent 9.3 by past guests.
It suits couples, friends and independent travellers who want an authentic Medina base with real comfort. Rooms range from cosy singles to spacious deluxe doubles and family-sized triples and quadruples, all air-conditioned and decorated in a Moroccan style, many opening onto the courtyard or a balcony. Facilities go well beyond a simple riad: there is an indoor pool, a spa and wellness centre, an on-site restaurant, a shared lounge and a sun terrace.
Founded by Yahya, a young Amazigh (Berber) host who loves bringing travellers from around the world together, the riad has a warm, sociable feel. A tour desk helps arrange excursions, cooking classes, guided walks and activities such as cycling and horse riding. Payment on site is in cash only, and the atmosphere throughout is genuinely Moroccan.

Riad La Calèche offers eight room types arranged around its courtyard, from a compact single up to a family-friendly superior quadruple, so solo travellers, couples and small groups can each find the right fit. Every room is air-conditioned, finished with Moroccan décor, and comes with a private bathroom featuring a shower, hairdryer and free toiletries.
The differences lie in size, bed setup and outlook: some rooms look onto the peaceful inner patio, while the deluxe and superior categories add a balcony with garden views, a private entrance and a dining area. Sizes range from around 15 m² for the single up to 35 m² for the quadruple, giving you clear options whether you want an intimate hideaway or extra space for the whole family.

Riad La Calèche offers noticeably more than a typical Medina guest house. At its centre are the wellness touches many travellers hope for but rarely find in the old town: an indoor pool and a spa and wellness centre where you can recover after long days exploring the souks. An on-site restaurant serves meals, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available, and room service is on hand.
Around the courtyard you will find a shared lounge and TV area, a sun terrace with outdoor furniture, a garden and a tour desk that arranges cooking classes, guided walks, cycling and horse riding. Rooms are air-conditioned and non-smoking, with private bathrooms, free toiletries and a socket by the bed, while the 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, daily housekeeping and free WiFi throughout keep things easy. Please note there is no parking, and payment on site is cash only.
Riad La Calèche sits at 20 Derb Boulfdail Kennaria, deep inside the historic Marrakech Medina and only about 300 metres from Djemaa El Fna, the city's famous main square. Around it stretch the souks, the maze of covered markets where you can hunt for spices, leather, lanterns and textiles. Because the Medina lanes are narrow and pedestrian, taxis stop at the edge of the neighbourhood and the last stretch is on foot; the riad can help arrange a porter and clear directions when you arrive.
Almost everything worth seeing is within a short walk. Djemaa El Fna is liveliest in the late afternoon and evening, when storytellers, musicians and food stalls take over the square, so it is worth timing at least one visit for sunset. The Bahia Palace, the Dar Si Said Museum and the Ben Youssef Madrasa are all a few minutes away, and the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace lie just to the south. For a green break, Le Jardin Secret and the riverside Cyber Park are within a kilometre.
Getting here is easy: Marrakech-Menara Airport is roughly 6 km away, around 15 minutes by car, and the riad can arrange an airport shuttle. The Marrakech train station is about 3 km out for trips to Casablanca and beyond, while the Jamaa El Fna bus stop is a short walk. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to visit, with warm days and cooler evenings; summers are hot, which makes the indoor pool and shaded courtyard especially welcome.
